The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has strengthened its ranks with the defection of about 4,000 members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), including the party’s Deputy Chairman, Okechukwu Idenyi, and Secretary, Solomon Adum.
The defectors were officially received during a political rally held in Isu Community, Onicha Local Government Area, where the PDP leadership described the development as a significant addition to its preparations for the 2027 general elections.
State PDP Chairman, Chukwuma Igwe, welcomed the new members and assured them of equal opportunities within the party, urging them to work alongside existing members to build a stronger political platform capable of offering Ebonyi residents an alternative in the next election.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, former NDC Secretary Solomon Adum said the decision to join the PDP followed consultations with supporters and reflected their confidence in the party’s commitment to democratic governance, unity and sustainable development.
Adum pledged the loyalty of the new members to the PDP, promising to help deepen the party’s grassroots support while promoting internal democracy, peaceful political engagement and issue-based campaigns.
Also addressing the gathering, the PDP candidate for the Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency, Felix Igboke, described the party as a growing political force and urged the defectors to remain committed to strengthening its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He expressed confidence that unity and hard work within the party would improve its chances of electoral success in the state.
