A coalition of pastoralists, butchers, and agribusiness stakeholders in Kaduna State has described Governor Uba Sani’s interventions in the livestock sector as one of the administration’s most significant footprints in agriculture.

The group, Kaduna Pastoral Development Forum (KPDF) made the commendation on Tuesday in Kachia, citing the state’s recent investments in pasture fields, water infrastructure, and modern abattoirs across the three senatorial zones.

Addressing journalists, KPDF Coordinator, Alhaji Suleiman Bello, said the administration’s approach has directly addressed challenges that fueled farmer-herder clashes and weakened the meat value chain for decades.

“Governor Uba Sani has quietly delivered what we have been asking for 20 years. He did not make noise about it. He just did the work,” Bello said.

The group quoted Kaduna State Ministry of Agriculture’s Statistics, to underscore the milestones of Governor Uba Sani. It said 19 pastoralist communities have been provided with dedicated pasture fields and solar-powered boreholes to reduce seasonal migration and pressure on farmlands.

Bello further stated that the Governor has also completed three modern abattoirs — one each in Kawo, Kaduna North; Kafanchan, Jema’a; and Zango Shanu, Sabon Gari — alongside 21 additional slaughterhouses across the state.

KPDF said it also confirmed from Commissioner of Agriculture, Malam Murtala Dabo, that the facilities come with full cold-chain infrastructure including cold rooms, deep freezers, hygienic meat shops, and water-heating systems aimed at improving meat safety and storage.

The group specifically praised the reconstruction of a perimeter fence at the Zango Shanu abattoir, saying it solved a security challenge that had persisted for over 30 years.

“For the first time, butchers at Zango Shanu can work without fear of encroachment or theft. That fence alone has restored confidence,” the group noted, while quoting Sarkin Fawan Badawa, Musa Dalhat Abubakar.

Bello added that the upgrades have begun attracting traders from neighboring states.

“We now have butchers and traders coming in from Katsina and Zamfara. This is money staying in Kaduna,” he said.

The Coalition described the initiative as proof that development can be both peaceful and profitable.

“By keeping pastoralists in designated settlements with water and pasture, the government is boosting meat and dairy output while reducing conflict. That is governance with a human face,” Bello stated.

KPDF urged the state government to sustain the investments and scale them to more communities, adding that Kaduna could become a model for livestock transformation in Northern Nigeria.

“History will record this as the moment Kaduna stopped managing livestock problems and started building a livestock economy,” Bello concluded.
