Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, on Thursday, pledged more investment in education, including the upgrade of schools infrastructure to enhance teaching and learning.
The governor spoke during the  inauguration of upgraded facilities at  Government Science Secondary School, Yabo, his Alma mater.
The inauguration was performed by the governor’s former Principal and now the District Head of Sabon Birni, Sarkin Gobir Sabon Birni Alhaji Alhaji Abdullahi Dan Galadima.
Dan Galadima went down memory lane and recalled several happy and joyous moments during Gov. Aliyu’s student days.
He said, “I am deeply happy that one of my former students has grown, became responsible and has returned to pay back to his Alma mater.
“I am also appreciative that it was during your administration that I was appointed as a District Head.
“True leadership is reflected in massive investments in education as this is an investment for the future of our children.
“This invaluable gesture will greatly inspire the students to aspire to become good leaders.”
The District Head urged the students to continue to uphold the good name of the school.
In his remarks, Gov. Aliyu said he was elated, humbled and extremely delighted to be part of the historic event.
The Governor recalled that when he was admitted in the school, it had the best infrastructure, extracurricular and other lively activities.
“However, the infrastructure were allowed to decay and that motivated me to undertake this noble project.
“The school has been fully equipped to provide quality education. This is what we have done across the state and we are still doing.
“This event has also given us the chance to reunite and rekindle friendships as well as celebrate enduring bonds.
“Knowledge especially Science and Technology remain the prime mover for development and modernization.”
He said that his administration has given priority to education by allocating more than the 25 per cent of the government annual budget to the education sector in line with UNESCO recommendation.
He urged the people of the state to enrol their children in both Islamic and Western schools, disclosing that he has ramped up students’ feeding allowance by over 300 per cent.
Gov. Aliyu applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his meaningful reforms and programmes that are driving development across Nigeria.
While underscoring the imperatives of the Renewed Hope Agenda, the Sokoto State Governor said, “we remain committed to Tinubu’s victory in the 2027 general elections.”
