Kebbi Governor Approves Enrollment of 50,000 Poor, Vulnerable Persons Into Social Health Insurance Scheme
Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has approved the enrolment of 50,000 poor and vulnerable persons under the state Social health insurance scheme.
This was made known in a statement issued on Saturday by the
Executive Secretary, Kebbi State Contributory Health Care Management Agency, KECHEMA, Dr. Murtala Muhammad Dandare.
According to the executive secretary, this landmark approval demonstrates the governor’s unwavering commitment to improving the welfare of the less privileged and ensuring that every resident has access to quality and affordable healthcare.
“This is not the first time His Excellency has made such a remarkable investment in the health of the people.
“Last year, the governor similarly approved the enrolment of 50,000 poor and vulnerable persons under the Equity Fund, further reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening social protection and expanding access to healthcare.
“This latest intervention will significantly improve the state’s health indicators, enhance Kebbi State’s performance among the Northern Governors’ Forum, and bring the state closer to achieving Universal Health Coverage,” he said.
Dr. Murtala said in the coming weeks, KECHEMA will commence the enrolment exercise across all 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
“The Agency plans to enrol an average of at least 200 eligible beneficiaries from each of the 225 electoral wards across Kebbi State, ensuring equitable distribution of the programme’s benefits.”
He appealed to healthcare providers across the state to continue to bear with the Agency regarding the challenges associated with the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).
“For over two quarters, the Agency has experienced delays in accessing the first and second quarter BHCPF releases from the National Health Insurance Agency (NHIA), which has affected some aspects of programme implementation.
“However, I wish to assure all stakeholders that the government and the agency are actively engaging with the relevant authorities, and every necessary measure is being taken to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.”
The executive secretary thanked Governor Idris for the “historic” approval and his unwavering commitment to improving the health and well-being of the people of the state.
