ADC tells Tinubu govt to fix Nigeria, stop criticizing citizens abroad

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged the Federal Government to focus on addressing Nigeria’s security and economic challenges instead of criticizing citizens who relocated abroad in search of better opportunities.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said on Sunday that the Tinubu administration lacked the moral authority to lecture Nigerians in the diaspora while, according to him, many of the conditions that prompted their departure remained unresolved.
In a post on his X account, Abdullahi accused the administration of failing to tackle insecurity, economic hardship, poor healthcare and declining educational standards.
“It is sad that this government, which has shown such disdain for everyday Nigerians that are struggling under the weight of its failures, has now chosen to extend that same disregard to honest Nigerians who have japa’d in search of better opportunities,” he wrote.
The ADC spokesman argued that the government should prioritize guaranteeing citizens’ safety, creating jobs, restoring economic stability and rebuilding public confidence rather than making comparisons between Nigerians living at home and those overseas.
He maintained that the administration had no basis to claim that Nigerians were better off in the country than abroad while, according to him, security, healthcare, education and other indicators of citizens’ welfare remained under pressure.
Abdullahi also pointed to the contribution of Nigerians in the diaspora to the national economy, noting that Nigeria recorded oil export earnings of $31.5 billion in 2025, while official diaspora remittances amounted to $21.8 billion during the same period.
He said the figures demonstrated the significant role Nigerians abroad continue to play in supporting the country’s economy and urged the government to address domestic challenges rather than criticizing those who sought opportunities outside the country.
