Oyo School Kidnap: Odih criticises Makinde, warns against politicising Insecurity

Date:

Former Director-General of Atiku Youth Wing and now Director-General of The Bridge for Renewed Hope; Hon. Rowland Odih has strongly criticised the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, over comments suggesting that the recent abduction of school-children in Oyo State was orchestrated to frustrate his Presidential ambition, in that he said while the school-children and their teachers were still in captivity that the abduction of the school-children and their teachers occurred a day after he declared his presidential ambition.

According to Hon. Rowland, “it is inappropriate and insensitive to draw political connections to a tragic incident that affected innocent school-children, their teachers, and their families”.

“Lives of Nigerian citizens must never become tools for political narratives. At a time when families were anxiously praying for the safe return of their loved ones, public office holders like Governor Seyi Makinde ought to have been focused on unity, compassion, and supporting security agencies rather than making statements capable of politicising such unfortunate incidents,” Hon. Rowland said in a Monday statement signed and made available by the media office of The Bridge for Renewed Hope.

He noted that security remains a shared responsibility and commended the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the nation’s security agencies in responding to security challenges across the country.

Hon. Rowland re-affirmed his confidence in President Tinubu’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of Nigerians, stating that the President has consistently demonstrated resolve in strengthening the country’s security architecture and ensuring that those responsible for criminal activities are brought to justice.

“The successful rescue efforts and the Federal Government’s continued investments in security reflect President Tinubu’s unwavering determination to keep Nigeria safe. While challenges remain which are all challenges inherited by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigerians should continue to support the ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and security across the country,” he added.

Hon. Rowland urged political leaders across party lines to exercise restraint in their public comments on matters of national security and to prioritise the collective interest of the nation over partisan considerations.
