In a major boost to the infrastructure landscape of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Minister of the FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has announced that the highly anticipated 17-kilometer Bwari-to-Kubwa road will be officially completed and commissioned before the end of 2026.
The Minister made this disclosure on Tuesday, during the grand commissioning of the Bwari Satellite Town Water Supply project.
The event marked a dual milestone: the 25th day of an intensive project-commissioning marathon celebrating the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, and the 50th official project commissioning since Wike took office.
The 17km road is a critical transit artery designed to link Bwari and Kubwa, two of the FCT’s most densely populated satellite towns. Once completed, the road is expected to drastically cut down travel times, reduce wear-and-tear on commuter vehicles, and boost economic activities between the two commercial hubs.
Addressing a jubilant crowd of residents, Wike emphasized that the road project is part of a deliberate strategy to ensure development is felt far beyond the Abuja city centre.
“We are not only concentrating on roads; we are also making sure other sectors are being touched.
“That is why we are here today to deliver clean water.
“By the grace of God, before the end of this year, we will commission the 17 km of Bwari to Kubwa,” Wike announced, pointing to the massive turnout as evidence of the residents’ satisfaction.
The upcoming road commissioning adds to a rapidly growing list of finished public works in the area, including virtually all inner roads in Ushafa, which were commissioned last year.
The Minister highlighted the speed at which the FCT administration is operating, backed by the political will of the Presidency.
Wike pledged to commission another 10 major projects before January 2027, ahead of the next political campaign season.
Following last week’s commissioning of the Karu water system in AMAC, the Bwari water launch successfully fulfills the administration’s 2026 promise to bring clean pipe-borne water to the satellite towns.
Wike praised President Tinubu for providing the FCT with unprecedented administrative and financial support, noting that his past experience as a governor taught him that ministerial success is impossible without executive backing.
“When people are happy, those in authority will be happy.
“After all, what is governance? Governance is to make people happy, to make changes in their lives, to make them better. And that’s what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is doing,” Wike said.
In his characteristic bold style, Wike also sent a pointed message to political detractors and opposition hopefuls, declaring that national leadership is earned through track records, not rhetoric.
“To be president is not ‘cho cho cho’ (empty chatter).
You don’t just wake up early in the morning and say, I want to become president.
“It doesn’t happen that way. We are prepared, the President is prepared, and our work speaks for itself,” the Minister stated.
