A former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Sam Amadi, has revealed that Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi separately advised him against contesting elective offices, citing the nature of Nigeria’s political process.
Amadi disclosed this in a Facebook post on Wednesday while reflecting on his political ambitions and the challenges associated with elections in the country.
According to him, Uzodinma told him in 2014 not to pursue the Imo State governorship because he would not be willing to engage in the practices allegedly associated with winning elections.
He also claimed that Peter Obi recently advised him against contesting for a Senate seat, warning that the electoral process would be violent and dominated by people willing to engage in wrongdoing.
Despite the warnings, Amadi said he remains determined to seek the Imo State governorship, insisting he would not be discouraged by the challenges of the political environment.
He maintained that his decision to run is driven by a desire to offer leadership despite what he described as the difficult realities of Nigeria’s electoral system.
