As Nigerians celebrated international Literacy day, Founder of Peace, Revival and Reconciliation Foundation of Nigeria, Pastor Yuhana Buru, has lamented the high rate of illiteracy in Nigeria, particularly among children.
He said this calls for concern and if left unaddressed would not augur well for the country in this 21 century.
In a statement signed and issued to newsmen in Kaduna by Buru, he said presently there are thousands of Nigerian citizens that are illiterates in both rural and urban areas.
He cited increasing insecurity, high cost of education as factors responsible for failure of parents to pursue education of their children, and called on stakeholders in education sector, namely teachers without borders and Nigerian Union of Teachers and the others to rededicate their service to eradicating illiteracy in Nigeria.
