Borno Police Recover ₦10.08m, Arrest Two in Alleged ₦39.2m Bank Fraud

The Borno State Police Command says it has arrested two suspects over an alleged cyber-enabled financial fraud involving the unlawful withdrawal of ₦39.2 million from a customer’s bank account in Maiduguri.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the fraud was reported on April 17, 2026, after unknown persons allegedly gained unauthorized access to the victim’s bank account and withdrew ₦39,208,000.

The spokesperson said operatives of the Borno Police Command’s Crack Squad (VCRU) immediately launched an intelligence-driven investigation, deploying digital forensic techniques to identify those responsible for the alleged crime.

He disclosed that the investigation led to the arrest of Ibrahim Alhaji Gaji, 23, and Umar Mohammed, also known as Baba Alhaji, 39, on June 27, 2026.

Police said ₦10.08 million was recovered from the suspects during the operation.
The command added that investigations are ongoing to recover the outstanding funds and apprehend other individuals believed to be connected with the alleged fraud.

According to the statement, the suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Borno State, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling cybercrime and financial fraud across the state.

He urged residents to safeguard their banking credentials, remain vigilant against cyber threats, and promptly report suspicious financial transactions or cyber-related incidents to the nearest police station.
