The Nigerian Army has disowned a fake recruitment advertisement circulating on social media and other online platforms, falsely inviting applications for the Short Service Combatant Commission (SSCC) Course 50/2027.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army described the advertisement as false, fraudulent and unauthorised, stressing that it did not originate from the Nigerian Army.
The Army urged members of the public, particularly prospective applicants, to disregard the fake recruitment notice and avoid dealing with individuals, groups or websites claiming to conduct recruitment on its behalf.
According to the statement, all Nigerian Army recruitment and commissioning exercises are conducted free of charge, transparently and strictly on merit.
The Army emphasised that official recruitment announcements are published only through national newspapers, its verified social media platforms and other recognised official communication channels.
It also reiterated that no application form is sold and no individual or agent is authorised to facilitate recruitment or demand payment at any stage of the process.
The statement warned those behind the fraudulent advertisement to cease their activities immediately, revealing that security agencies have been mobilised to identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible for producing, circulating or using the fake advertisement to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.
It added that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of its recruitment process and advised the public to verify all recruitment information through its official communication channels.
It also encouraged Nigerians to report any suspicious recruitment activities to the nearest military formation or relevant security agency.
