UDUS: Students’ Association honours cultural ambassadors, turbans 46th Sarkin Hausawa

The Hausa Students’ Association of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), celebrated the richness of Hausa culture and tradition with the successful turbaning of Maccido Abubakar as the 46th Sarkin Hausawa, alongside the conferment of traditional titles and honorary awards on some deserving personalities.
During the colourful ceremony, Alhaji Ahmad Umar S. Fada was turbaned as Baraden Masarautar Hausa, while Alhaji Mukhtar Muhammad Mai Sa’a received the traditional title of Turaki.
The event also recognized individuals, who have made significant contributions to the promotion and preservation of Hausa language and culture.
Among those honoured was the General Manager of ALU TV Nigeria, Alhaji Bashar Abubakar, who received an Award of Excellence in recognition of his unwavering support for the Department of Nigerian Languages and his commitment to advancing Hausa culture and traditions.
The ceremony featured paper presentations by renowned scholars, cultural performances, traditional music, and goodwill messages, all emphasizing the need to preserve the cultural values and heritage of the Hausa people for future generations.
Several speakers at the event urged students and the younger generation to take pride in their language, customs, and traditions, describing them as invaluable assets that should be protected and promoted.
Reacting to the award, Abubakar said, “I am deeply honoured and humbled to receive a surprise Award of Excellence from the Department of Nigerian Languages, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, in recognition of my support and contributions to the department.
“This honour inspires me to continue supporting education, academic excellence, and the development of our indigenous languages.
“My sincere appreciation goes to the management, staff, and students of the department for this thoughtful recognition.
“Thank you, UDUS. This award is truly appreciated.”
