Sokoto Gov’t graduates 1,550 security marshals

A total of 1,550 operatives of the new Sokoto State Marshals Agency (SOSMA) graduated on Thursday to join the efforts of government to enhance public order, peace and stability across the state.
Our Correspondent in Sokoto reports that Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, was the Special Guest of Honour at the epochal event that has seventy female operatives among the new security outfit.
The new Marshals are in four categories of environmental, security and intelligence, traffic management and those to secure public infrastructure.
Speaking at the event, Gov. Oyebanji commended the state governor for the initiative, saying was a testament of his determination to promote sustainable peace, security and national unity.
The Ekiti State Governor added that the initiative showed visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of the people of Sokoto state.
He expressed the hope that the new Marshals would complement the efforts of the conventional security agencies in enhancing the safety and security of the people of the state.
Oyebanji added that the effort would augment President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s strides in combating criminality across Nigeria.
In his speech, Gov. Aliyu thanked Oyebanji for honouring his invitation, and reiterated his administration’s commitment to the protection of the lives and properties of all the law-abiding citizens of the state.
He said the government would provide logistics including vehicles, motorcycles and other equipment needed to bolster the operations of the new Marshals across the 23 Local Government Areas of the State.
Gov. Aliyu said they will work with the Sokoto State Community Guards Corps and various security agencies to safeguard lives and properties.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar also applauded the efforts of the state government in guaranteeing the safety of the lives and properties of the people.
He said that security is a collective responsibility of all Nigerians, as such everyone has a role to play in ending the level of insecurity in the country.
