In order to effectively tackle the increasing abuse of pedestrian bridges in the nation’s capital, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has advocated establishment of more mobile courts to try offenders on the spot.
According to the FCT-NSCDC commandant, Aminu Kafar-Soro, the establishment of the court would ensure the speedy trial of those bent on neglecting the use of the bridges provided for residents’ safety while crossing the roads.
Speaking through the Public Relations Officer of the command, during an interview with Peoples Daily, the command decried the increasing number of deaths from people crossing major roads in the city centre, hence the need to ensure the availability of mobile court try and convict people neglecting the use of the bridges.
This, when in place he said would ensure proper punishment for those caught crossing the road directly wherever the bridge is available, thereby serving as a deterrent to others.
Also, he warned residents, not to see the pedestrian bridges as a profitable avenue for their businesses, as its officers and other law enforcement agents would not hesitate to move against them, as such acts contribute to scaring from using the bridges.
