Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Anambra state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Ifeanyi Osogbe has assured that the party has been strengthened in the state to ensure that its candidate, President Bola Tinubu secures at least 30% of the total votes in the state.
Osogbe who spoke to newsmen on the sidelines of the Anambra stakeholders meeting at the weekend said the party will strongly challenge the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi because contrary to what happened in 2023, more formidable political heavyweights in the state have now joined the ruling party.
He argued that the APC has continued to make significant inroads in the state since the last governorship election, where its flag bearer, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu polled close to 100,000 votes.
“I think this coming election is not the first time, in 2023 election, Obi was presidential candidate under the Labour Party and Tinubu was our candidate in APC. Although he didn’t have much votes in Anambra state, some of us delivered our wards.
“You know that this time around, you know that there has been a lot of influx of men and women of substance from other parties. For instance, our current leader, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu was not in our party, he was in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) then. Now he is in our party and we know that with his contribution and that of many others who have joined us, we are going to get more votes now.
“In 2023, we got 5111 votes for Tinubu. Now last year in the governorship election we had with Ukachukwu as our candidate, we got nearly 100,000 votes. So you see the progression. So this time around, we are hoping that with the right leadership, we are targeting over 200,000 votes for Tinubu and now we are not going to talk about 25% but at least 30% for President Tinubu”.
However, on the leadership crisis rocking the state chapter, Osogbe said he believes that the party through the committee it has set up to look into the crisis will do the right thing in ensuring that only a capable leader who also has the backing of the members gets the opportunity to lead.
“The way we are going so far, I think that by the special grace of God, the issues will be resolved. My quest to be the APC Chairman is not a do or die affair. All I am saying is that we have somebody who will be capable to lead the party in the coming elections so that we can attain victory in any of the positions we are contesting.
“Like we want victory for President Bola Tinubu who has done so much for the party and the country. We want victory for our various candidates in the senatorial, House of Representatives and State Assembly seats, we want victory for them and we need a capable leader to lead that charge”, he added.
It could be recalled that Chief Osogbe had obtained a court ruling to unseat Sen. Emmanuel Anosike who emerged as state Chairman in March, 2026.
