The FCT Election Petition Appeal Tribunal sitting in Gudu, Abuja, has affirmed the election victory of Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu as the Executive Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
In a judgment delivered on Monday by Justice Suleiman Belgore, the appellate court dismissed the petition filed by Moses Paul Ogidi of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for lacking merit, effectively putting an end to the legal challenge over the council leadership.
Justice Belgore ruled that the arguments and evidence presented by the ADC candidate failed to invalidate the electoral outcome, thereby validating the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and upholding Maikalangu’s mandate.
The ruling confirms the leadership of the ruling party in the nation’s capital municipal administration.
According to a statement issued by the Office of the Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman of AMAC, following the judgment, the council welcomed the ruling as a victory for democracy and the residents of the territory.
