FCT Police Debunks Report of Military Officer Attack in Abuja, Confirms Incident Occurred in Nasarawa

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has clarified reports circulating on social media alleging that a serving military officer was attacked by suspected kidnappers within the Federal Capital Territory, stating that the incident occurred in neighbouring Nasarawa State and not in Abuja.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the Command launched an immediate investigation after becoming aware of online reports claiming that Colonel Abdussalam A. Ude was attacked by suspected kidnappers in the FCT.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, ordered a detailed investigation to verify the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation, the Command said,
established that the alleged attack took place in Badna, New Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, which is outside the jurisdiction of the FCT Police Command.

The Command expressed concern over what it described as the inaccurate attribution of the incident to the FCT by some blogs and media platforms, warning that such reports could create unnecessary panic, heighten public anxiety, and misinform residents of the nation’s capital.

To strengthen security around the FCT, the Commissioner of Police directed the immediate deployment of operational and intelligence personnel to border communities adjoining Nasarawa State.

The move is aimed at preventing criminal elements from infiltrating the Federal Capital Territory or carrying out unlawful activities within Abuja.

The FCT Police Command also urged journalists, bloggers, and social media users to verify security-related information with the appropriate authorities before publication, stressing that the dissemination of unverified reports undermines public confidence and fuels unnecessary fear.

The Command reassured residents that it remains committed to safeguarding lives and property and encouraged members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding.

Residents were also advised to promptly report suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest police station or through the FCT Police Command’s emergency response channels.
