14 killed in fresh attack on Benue community

No fewer than 14 persons have been reportedly killed and many others seriously injured as suspected militia herdsmen invaded Efeyi community in Ugboju, Otukpo local government area of Benue State.
Chairman Otukpo local government area Maxwell Ogiri who confirmed the incident to our correspondent on phone, said the attack occurred early hours of Tuesday when the gunmen invaded the community shooting sporadically.
He said there was no provocation to warrant the attack but a sheer appetite to shed blood and kill people, adding that there is great apprehension as people from neighboring commmunities are fleeing for safety
He said, “there are many security agencies including Mopol, Agro-rangers, military and Police.
“ I do not know if they are not enough. There should be deliberate effort by the state government to enforce the anti-open grazing law as everything is tied to it.
“Even the eviction notice given could hold because there is nobody to enforce it and so, we will continue to lament.”
As at the time of filing this report, there has been no comfirmation of the attack by the Police even as effort to speak to the Public Relations’ Officer DSP Edet Udeme proved abortiv
