Kidnapped Kebbi High Court Judge Regains Freedom
Justice Faruk Hassan Bunza, a Judge of the Kebbi State High Court abducted from his residence in Bunza Local Government Area on 26th July 2026, has been released.
He was released in the earlier hours of today, 3rd August 2026.
His release has been confirmed by his family, the state Ministry of Justice and the Kebbi State Police Command.
It wasn’t, however, clear whether the ransom demanded by the kidnappers was paid before his release.
A family member, who preferred anonymity, said Justice Bunza has safely reunited with his family.
“We are in jubilation and full of gratitude to God for seeing our own return safely from captivity. He was just released and has returned home now after spending one week with the bandits,” the relative said.
The family expressed appreciation to all those who stood by them during the ordeal.
“We sincerely thank and appreciate the Kebbi State Judiciary, the security agencies, and the entire people of Kebbi State who contributed in different ways, offered prayers, and sent messages of sympathy. Your concern and support gave us strength, and we are grateful for your solidarity,” the family member stated.
Similarly, the state police command confirmed the release of the judge in a statement on Monday.
“With the Judge now released, Police and other security agencies have intensified investigative efforts to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
“The Command urges members of the public to provide useful information that could assist in this regard. All information provided will be treated with utmost confidentiality,” its spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman stated.
The Command said it “appreciates the support and cooperation of the public and partner security agencies throughout this period, and reassures residents of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the State.
