The Leadership of the Nigeria Premier Football League Media Directors’ Forum, in a heart-warming gesture that symbolized unity and compassion within the football fraternity in the country, on Wednesday, presented financial support to the tune of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira(N150,000.00) to the widow of its late Secretary and Media Director of Rangers International FC of Enugu, Norbert Okolie, during the closing ceremony of a one-day mandatory strategic seminar and workshop organized by the Nigeria Premier Football League body in conjunction with Afrinvest.
The solemn presentation formed the emotional highpoint of the day-long capacity-building programme, which convened the twenty NPFL Clubs’ Media Directors as well as Marketing/Brand Investment Coordinators/Commercial Consultants for strategic engagements on commercial strategy and revenue generation opportunities, brand development and sponsorship activation, pitch-side advertising and branding protocols, broadcast and media operational requirements, data capture, reporting, and commercial utilization, sponsorship compliance and protection of commercial rights, as well as league-wide operational standards and best practices, while focusing on brand growth, digital storytelling and commercial sustainability.
Held at Ozom Hotel, Independent Layout, Enugu, the Seminar drew to a close with tributes to the NPFL Media Directors’ Forum’s late Secretary, Mr. Norbert Okolie, whose dedication to professionalizing Rangers’ and the Forum’s communications was described by speakers as a pivotal fulcrum behind Rangers’ and the Forum’s progress.
Presenting the donation on behalf of the Forum, the President and Media Director of Nasarawa United FC, Mr. Eche Amos, described the gesture as both a moral obligation and a testament to the brotherhood that binds the Forum’s members in the league.
“Today, we do more than close a workshop. We honour a man who served this Forum and his club with diligence, and we stand with the family he left behind.
“This support, though modest, reflects our collective resolve that no member of this Forum will be forgotten in moments of need”, Eche emotionally stated.
While praying God to comfort and strengthen the deceased’s family, the NPFL Media Directors’ Forum’s President appreciated the Management of Enugu Rangers led by Barr. Amobi Ezeaku, for standing by the family of the Club’s Late Media Director.
He appealed to the Management of the Flying Antelopes to consider absorbing the late Norbert’s widow into the Club to cushion the burden of raising the kids he left behind.
One of the programme’s participants from Niger Tornadoes FC, Usman Alfa, equally supported the Late Media Director’s widow with Fifty Thousand Naira(N50,000.00).
The widow, Mrs. Okolie Prisca, visibly moved, expressed gratitude to the Forum, Rangers International FC, and the League Organizers for remembering her late husband’s service.
“My husband always spoke well about the President of the NPFL Media Directors’ Forum, Mr. Eche Amos, and the work you were doing together.
“I thank you for keeping his memory alive, and hoping that you continue with this kind of spirit. It’s not been easy taking care of the family alone, but God is faithful”, Mrs. Okolie said.
The late Norbert Okolie died on 16th November, 2025, following a protracted illness.
NPFL officials, including the Chief Operating Officer, Prince Davison Owumi, and Director of Media, Harry Iwuala, commended the Media Directors’ Forum’s initiative, noting that the seminar itself was designed to equip club media and commercial teams with modern tools to drive fan engagement, protect club brands, and unlock new revenue streams ahead of the 2026/27 NPFL campaign which starts on the last weekend of August, 2026.
Facilitators led sessions on crisis communication, content monetization, data-driven marketing, and the evolving role of club Media Directors as custodians of both reputation and revenue.
Owumi urged participants to translate insights from the workshop into measurable impact at club level, stressing that the Media is no longer just the mouthpiece of the club, but the marketplace of the club.
He challenged Club Media Directors to carry the responsibility of telling better stories, build stronger brands and grow the commercial value of the league.
