NNPP urges INEC to review recognition amid leadership dispute

Date:

The Acting National Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Alhaji Bala Mohammed, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to review its recognition of the party’s leadership, insisting that the dispute remains before the courts.

Speaking in Abuja, Mohammed said the party was confident that the lingering leadership crisis would be resolved through the judicial process.

He maintained that despite the dispute, the NNPP continued to engage with INEC through its verification exercise, monitoring of party primaries and participation in training on the candidates’ nomination portal.

According to him, the party later discovered that the access credentials for uploading candidates’ details had been issued to another faction.

“This development compelled us to appeal to INEC to review its position in the interest of justice and fairness,” he said.

Mohammed urged the electoral commission to ensure that its decisions strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He reaffirmed the NNPP’s commitment to resolving the leadership dispute through lawful means, stressing that the party would continue to respect democratic institutions and the rule of law.

He also called on all stakeholders to allow the judicial process to run its course without interference.

As of the time of filing this report, INEC had yet to publicly respond to the party’s latest appeal.
