Corps member renovates classrooms in Sokoto, installs writing boards

A corps member, Hajaru Yushau Jibril, serving at the Government Girls’ College of Arts, Science and Islamic Studies, Arkilla, Sokoto, has renovated a number of classrooms and installed writing boards in the school.
The project was commissioned on Tuesday by Sabestine Blus, who represented the State Coordinator of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Tyoyer Gabriel Ter.
He commended the corps member for her outstanding intervention, and urged all corps members to strive to leave a lasting legacy in the communities they serve.
The Coordinator described Hajaru’s initiative as a shining example of the core objectives of the NYSC scheme, which seeks to promote national development through selfless service and meaningful community engagement.
He also commended the corps member for identifying the needs of the school and responding with a project that would have a lasting impact on both teaching and learning.
According to him, Personal CDS projects remain one of the most effective ways corps members can leave a positive legacy in their places of primary assignment.
Ter encouraged other corps members to emulate such initiative by identifying challenges within their host communities and developing practical solutions that would improve the lives of the people.
The NYSC Coordinator noted that exceptional projects are regularly recognised by the NYSC through State and National Honours, urging corps members to take advantage of the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to community development.
He also charged the students of the school to make judicious use of the facilities provided, describing them as valuable investments in their education.
Ter urged them to remain disciplined, focused on their studies, and committed to achieving academic excellence.
In her remarks, the Principal of the college, Hajiya Fatima Abdullahi, expressed appreciation to the corps member for the intervention, describing the project as timely and highly beneficial to the school.
She noted that the renovation of classrooms and installation of new writing boards would significantly improve the learning environment, while the educational session on personal hygiene would positively influence the health and well-being of the students.
The Principal thanked the NYSC for encouraging corps members to undertake community-oriented projects and assured that the school management would ensure proper maintenance of the facilities to maximise their long-term benefits.
Earlier, Hajaru Yushau Jibril, explained that the project was conceived after extensive consultations with the school management and other stakeholders to identify the institution’s most pressing needs.
She said the intervention was designed not only to improve classroom teaching but also to promote personal hygiene awareness among female students through a hair care education programme.
According to her, sustainable development begins with identifying genuine community needs and working collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to address them.
She appealed to the school authorities, teachers and students to take ownership of the project by ensuring proper maintenance of the renovated classrooms and newly installed facilities so that future generations of students could also benefit from them.
As part of the intervention, Hajaru commissioned five white-tile writing boards, renovated two classrooms, organised a hair care education session for JSS III female students, and distributed hair care products to support healthy personal hygiene practices among the students.
Speaking separately at the ceremony, Alhaji Muhammad Chedi, Alhaji Buhari Umar, a project partner, and Shafa’atu Abubakar Zaki, commended the corps member for her dedication and commitment to community service.
They described the project as a significant contribution to improving educational infrastructure and student welfare in the school, adding that such interventions complement government efforts in the education sector.
The speakers encouraged other corps members serving in Sokoto State and across the country to embrace community development initiatives capable of making lasting impacts on their host communities, noting,”small but well-planned projects can transform lives and inspire sustainable development.”
