Dele Momodu to Tinubu: seek re-election with performance, not political rhetoric

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has advised President Bola Tinubu to base his 2027 re-election bid on the achievements of his administration rather than political propaganda.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday, monitored in Abuja, Momodu said Nigerians would ultimately judge the President by his record in office, insisting that a strong performance would m ake his re-election campaign less difficult.
According to the Ovation Magazine publisher, the President should present a clear scorecard of his administration’s accomplishments instead of allowing members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to focus on attacking opposition figures.
Momodu also faulted the APC for what he described as its continued habit of blaming previous administrations for Nigeria’s economic and governance problems despite having spent more than three years in office.
He questioned what measurable improvements the government had made in the lives of Nigerians, arguing that the electorate would assess the administration based on tangible results rather than political messaging.
Commenting on former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s recent remarks that picking Atiku Abubakar as his running mate was his biggest political mistake, Momodu alleged that the former president has consistently opposed Atiku’s ambition to become Nigeria’s president.
He maintained that as the 2027 election approaches, the ruling party would be better served highlighting its achievements than dwelling on criticism of its predecessors or political rivals.
