First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for his dramatic green transformation of the Abuja City Gate, hailing the project as a benchmark for environmental management across Nigeria.
The First Lady made the comments while recognizing the FCT Administration’s efforts under the Renewed Hope Initiative’s Green Challenge, a campaign designed to encourage communities to turn abandoned spaces into eco-friendly parks.
While expressing awe at the City Gate’s makeover, Senator Oluremi Tinubu expressed disappointment that no state submitted entries for the initiative’s N50 million community prize category.
“It was a N50 million prize money and they didn’t enter.
“This was supposed to get our youth involved,” she said.
She subsequently urged Governors’ Wives across the 36 states to ignite environmental consciousness among young people by revitalizing school-based environmental clubs.
Sharing memories of her student days traveling across West Africa with youth environmental programs, she stressed that youth participation is critical to sustainable national development.
Responding, Wike attributed the successful revamp of the City Gate directly to the First Lady’s advocacy, stating that her vision for a cleaner, highly livable capital city spurred the FCT Administration into action.
