The Unity Advocacy Group (UAG) has described the creation of four additional divisions of the Nigerian Army as a strategic step that will strengthen ongoing military operations against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other security threats nationwide.

The group said the decision by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the military high command led by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, demonstrates commitment to enhancing the operational capacity of the Armed Forces in response to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

In a statement, the Convener of the group, Mr. Ifeanyi Aigbedion, noted that the establishment of the new divisions would improve command and control structures, facilitate faster deployment of troops, and increase military presence in areas vulnerable to attacks by criminal elements.

According to him, the expansion is coming at a critical time when security forces are sustaining pressure on terrorists and insurgents across different theatres of operation.

“The additional divisions will provide greater operational flexibility for commanders in the field and improve coordination of military operations aimed at restoring peace and security in affected communities,” he said.

Aigbedion added that a stronger military presence in strategic locations would enhance intelligence gathering, improve surveillance capabilities, and support ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and criminal hideouts.

The group also commended Gen. Oluyede for his leadership and commitment to strengthening the nation’s defence architecture through strategic reforms and capacity-building initiatives.

It stated that the Armed Forces have continued to record notable successes in the fight against insecurity, and expressed optimism that the new divisions would accelerate gains already achieved in various operations.

UAG equally commended President Tinubu for supporting measures aimed at improving the effectiveness of the military and ensuring that security agencies are better positioned to protect lives, property, and critical national assets.

The group expressed confidence that the creation of the new divisions would significantly boost the war against terrorism and contribute to the restoration of lasting peace, stability, and economic development across the country.
