The Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, FFS, Mr. Samuel Adeyemi, has said the Service is well repositioned under his administration to respond to fire disasters across the country.

Adeyemi stated this on Tuesday in Abuja while unveiling newly constructed befitting Quarter Guards at the Wuse Command and the National Headquarters of the Service.

He said his administration’s focus on personnel welfare had inspired officers to contribute their quota, culminating in the donation of the Quarter Guards to the Service.

The CG described the project as more than a physical structure, noting that it represents a culture of ownership, commitment, discipline, and pride in the Service.

He said the initiative was particularly significant because it was conceived, designed, and executed voluntarily by officers as a contribution to the institution.

“For the first time in the history of our Service, officers have chosen to leave a lasting legacy, not because they were instructed to do so, but because they believe in the vision and direction of the Federal Fire Service,” he said.

Adeyemi stated that the Quarter Guards reflect professionalism, unity, creativity, and the spirit of service, adding that motivated personnel would willingly invest their time, skills, and resources in building a stronger institution.

He recalled that upon assumption of office about a year ago, he prioritized the welfare of officers and men. According to him, funds meant for a grand reception were redirected to purchase mattresses and other welfare items for firefighters nationwide.

He also disclosed that his administration initiated a Medical Intervention Scheme and increased the interest-free loan for personnel from N300,000 to N500,000, among other welfare packages.

“Little did I know that these interventions would touch the hearts of our workforce. Today, they have translated into one of the most motivated workforces in Nigeria,” he added.

The CG commended all officers involved in the project, saying their selfless contribution had set a benchmark for others to emulate.

He further directed the Chairman of the Controller-General’s Awards Committee, DCG M.A. Tambari, to document the initiative and other outstanding contributions by officers across the country for recognition and honour.

He charged officers and men across all commands and formations to emulate the spirit of excellence, innovation, and patriotism demonstrated by the initiators of the project.
