122.8km Mando–Birnin Gwari Road to Boost Security, Agriculture, Northern Economy – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has said the reconstruction of the 122.8-kilometre Mando–Birnin Gwari Road will enhance security, unlock agricultural potential and stimulate economic growth across Northern Nigeria, describing the project as a strategic investment in national development.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony on yesterday, the President said the road, which links Northern Nigeria with the South-West, would improve the movement of people and goods while opening up new economic opportunities.

Tinubu who was represented by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, said he recalled his campaign promise in 2022 to reconstruct the road if elected, saying the project reflects his administration’s commitment to fulfilling its promises to Nigerians.

He noted that the Birnin Gwari Road had suffered decades of neglect with little or no meaningful reconstruction but assured that his administration was determined to reverse the trend.

The President added that Kaduna, as a major gateway to Northern Nigeria, deserves quality infrastructure to support commerce, mobility and regional development.

Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, said the project further demonstrates President Tinubu’s commitment to delivering infrastructure that directly improves the lives of Nigerians.

Umahi said the reconstruction would strengthen security, unlock the area’s vast agricultural potential and support the administration’s drive to tackle hunger through strategic infrastructure investment.

He added that the administration’s economic reforms were beginning to yield positive results, stressing that despite inheriting significant challenges in 2023, the government had continued to deliver transformative infrastructure projects across the country.

“By embarking on this project, Mr President is fulfilling his promise to the people. It will also trigger an agricultural revolution in the area,” Umahi said.

Also speaking, the Emir of Birnin Gwari, Zubair Jibril, commended the Federal Government for flagging off the project, describing it as transformative.

The traditional ruler said the road would strengthen connectivity and position Kaduna as a hub for commerce and agriculture in Northern Nigeria, adding that improved security had encouraged farmers to return to their farmlands.

The Mando–Birnin Gwari Road project, which begins at Mando near Kaduna Airport, is among the major federal road projects approved by the President in May 2026.
