Former Cross River State Governor and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) presidential candidate, Donald Duke, has called on opposition parties to unite ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that Nigeria is on a dangerous path that requires urgent action.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time , monitored in Abuja, Duke said his decision to return to active politics was driven by concerns over the country’s current direction and the need to help change its trajectory.
He argued that Nigeria’s leadership has failed to adequately address the nation’s pressing challenges, insisting that urgent intervention is needed to prevent a deeper national crisis.
According to the former governor, remaining on the sidelines to analyse events is no longer enough, as the country’s situation demands active participation from those seeking change.
Duke noted that he belongs to the same political generation as President Bola Tinubu, describing both as part of the “Class of ‘99,” but maintained that the current administration has not taken the country in the right direction.
He also reiterated that, as a member of the opposition, he believes opposition parties should work together to present a stronger alternative capable of changing Nigeria’s political and economic trajectory ahead of the 2027 elections.
