Elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have distanced themselves from Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s reported reconciliation initiative, saying they are unaware of any committee set up to unite aggrieved members ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The elders, under the platform of the PBAT Mandate Elders Forum, also questioned the governor’s commitment to rebuilding the party, alleging that his reconciliation efforts lack sincerity.
Speaking on behalf of the group, its chairman, Demola Ijabiyi, expressed doubts about Aiyedatiwa’s dedication to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign, arguing that the governor’s political mobilisation has produced little tangible impact.
According to Ijabiyi, several support groups launched by the governor failed to gain momentum, while the Governor’s Advisory Council has remained largely inactive despite the need for strong grassroots mobilisation.
He maintained that the level of public engagement and political leadership demonstrated by the governor ahead of the 2027 elections has fallen short of expectations.
The forum further alleged that Aiyedatiwa was unhappy over the emergence of some National Assembly and State House of Assembly candidates, claiming that many of his preferred aspirants did not secure party tickets.
Ijabiyi also criticised the governor over reports and photographs showing him hosting a prominent opposition senatorial candidate, arguing that the development raised concerns among APC members in the state.
The remarks come amid ongoing internal disagreements within the Ondo APC as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
