A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered all parties involved in the dispute over the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidacy for the Jos North North Constituency seat in the Plateau State House of Assembly to maintain the status quo pending the hearing of the substantive case.
Justice Salim Olasupo Ibrahim issued the order while ruling on an ex parte application in a suit filed by Adamu Aliyu against the APC, Abdulkadir Hassan and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The court specifically restrained Hassan from presenting himself as the APC candidate or taking any further steps in relation to the disputed nomination until the matter is determined.
In the suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1618/2026, Aliyu challenged the party’s nomination process and sought to prevent INEC from recognizing, accepting, listing or publishing Hassan’s name as the APC candidate for the constituency election.
He also requested an order restraining Hassan from parading himself or campaigning as the party’s candidate pending the determination of the case.
After considering the 53-paragraph affidavit, supporting exhibits and submissions by Aliyu’s counsel, M.B. Abdullahi, the court granted the alternative relief, directing all parties to preserve the existing situation until the case is concluded.
Justice Ibrahim subsequently fixed August 24, 2026, for the hearing of the substantive suit.
