NEC Monitoring Committee Commends Buni’s Legacy Projects

The Secretary to the Yobe State Government (SSG), Dr. Mohammed Goje, on Friday received members of the National Economic Council (NEC) Monitoring Implementation Committee, who commended Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration for executing transformative legacy projects that are improving the lives of the people of Yobe State.
The committee, which was on an advocacy and monitoring visit to the state, inspected several completed and ongoing projects, including the Damaturu Gully Erosion Control Project, the August 27 Stadium, major road projects, the Damaturu Flyover and Underpass, and the Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC) at Yobe State University.
The Yobe State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Muhammad Garba Gagiyo, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Bukar Kilo, briefed the delegation on the projects and the state’s development initiatives.
Speaking during the visit, the leader of the delegation and Borno State Commissioner for Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Yaumi Maina, expressed satisfaction with the quality, impact and strategic relevance of the projects executed by the Buni administration, describing the BioRTC as a world-class research facility equipped with state-of-the-art scientific equipment and managed by highly qualified professionals.
“We were taken round by the Director of the Centre, Prof. Mahmud Bukar Maina, and I must say we are more than impressed by what we saw. The state-of-the-art scientific equipment and the highly trained professionals deployed to the centre are remarkable and worthy of commendation,” Maina said.
He explained that the committee was mandated by the National Economic Council to monitor the implementation of council resolutions and key development projects across states, assess progress and make recommendations where necessary.
Maina also urged the Yobe State Government to sustain its support for the BioRTC by strengthening collaboration with relevant Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), noting that such partnerships would position the centre as a national hub for biomedical research and innovation.
Also speaking, Bala Musa Giade of the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning said the NEC Secretariat periodically monitors the implementation of council resolutions to promote accountability, encourage healthy competition and facilitate the replication of successful development initiatives among states.
Responding, Dr. Goje appreciated the committee for its objective assessment and reaffirmed the Yobe State Government’s commitment to implementing sound policies and embracing constructive recommendations that would accelerate development and improve the welfare of the people.
He also assured the delegation of the state’s continued cooperation with the National Economic Council in promoting sustainable growth and inclusive development.
