Former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, has declared that the people of Benue State deserve to live peacefully on their ancestral lands without constant fear, displacement, and armed attacks.

Aondoakaa, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for 2027, stated this on Monday during a condolence visit to the Abaashwa community in Mbaasar, Nzorov Council Ward, Guma Local Government Area, following a recent herdsmen attack that left several dead and many injured.

Addressing the community, Aondoakaa condemned the killings as deeply painful and unacceptable, emphasizing that security remains the prerequisite for any meaningful societal progress.

“Security must come first at all times. It is the bedrock of every meaningful development.

“Our people must be able to live in their communities, go to their farms, and pursue their livelihoods without fear,” he said.

During the visit, the former AGF commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the establishment of a new Army Division headquartered in Makurdi, alongside the 11 Brigade in Gboko, as well as the Federal Government’s efforts to enhance military welfare and remuneration.

He urged Benue residents to support security agencies by sharing timely intelligence.

Highlighting the need for continuity and non-partisanship in handling security, Aondoakaa paid tribute to former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom for his sacrifices and for enacting the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law of 2017.
