2027: Opposition coalition seeks common agenda before choosing Tinubu’s challenger

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Salihu Lukman, has said the opposition-led G100 coalition is focused on developing a common agenda capable of restoring Nigerians’ confidence in the opposition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Lukman said the coalition was not established to impose a candidate or dictate terms to opposition leaders, but to facilitate discussions on the major challenges confronting the country and encourage political leaders to respond to the concerns of Nigerians.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Tuesday, monitored in Abuja, he said the ongoing engagement among opposition leaders had so far been encouraging, despite the difficulties involved in bringing different political interests together.
According to him, the coalition is seeking to ensure that opposition parties agree on key priorities and policies that would guide their administration if they defeat President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
Lukman explained that the issues being discussed by the G100 would help opposition leaders develop a shared position on what should become priorities for the country.
He said the coalition would be in a better position to speak more confidently about those issues after its next meeting.
“We didn’t come as G100 to dictate to leaders. We came in to facilitate,” Lukman said.
He added that the ultimate objective was to encourage political leaders to find practical answers to the questions Nigerians were asking and demonstrate that the opposition was prepared to offer a credible alternative in the 2027 election.
Lukman acknowledged that uniting opposition forces around a common platform would not be easy, given the competing interests and ambitions involved.
However, he said the participants remained committed to the process, stressing that the interests of Nigeria must take precedence over individual political ambitions.
The G100 comprises opposition figures working toward producing a common presidential candidate and a stronger political platform to challenge Tinubu and the APC in the 2027 general elections.
Lukman expressed optimism that the coalition would ultimately present Nigerians with what he described as a “much better and much more formidable” alternative.
