Benue court orders bank sealed over unpaid garnishee debt

The Chief Magistrate Court 2, sitting in Makurdi on Monday, ordered the sealing of two United Bank of Africa (UBA), branches in Makurdi, Benue State capital.
The court issued the order and pronounced the immediate garnishee of Benue State account to the tune of over 200 million naira dociled in the bank.
It was gathered from a source that the Court ordered the attachment of UBA, for disobeying the order of the court over the issue of garnishee
Our correspondent who visited the banks located opposite the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN close to Government House and the other on Otukpo road, reports that both banks were closed to customers who resorted to use of ATM machine outside the bank premises for their transactions.
A staff, who spoke on condition of anonymity simply said, “we are not open today because of some legal issues involving the bank”.
When contacted, the State Commissioner for Justice and Public/Attorney-General Barr Yangien Ornguga who assigns State government ciunsels with brief/cases bordering on garnishees, declined comment saying that he is indisposed to speak on the issue.
He further instructed Journalists to write formally to his office for reaction. Other officials of government including the State Commissioner for Finance Michael Oglegba also, refused to comment on the issue, saying he is in a meeting.
It is alleged that the UBA account is the main FAAC account of the state government.
