The erstwhile Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Peoples Democratic Party ((PDP) in Sokoto State, Alhaji Babangida Kakaki, on Friday defected to the All Progressives Congress ( APC).
Our Correspondent in Sokoto reports that Kakaki, a public affairs commentator and analyst, was received into the fold of the APC by Sokoto State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Haruna Sarkin-Gobir Aditya and other officials.
The Chairman described the defection of Kakaki to the APC as a homecoming, saying that the party was happy with the development and welcomes all members of the opposition parties willing to join it.
He said, ” APC is the largest party in Africa, the biggest and ruling party in Sokoto State, Nigeria and we cheerfully welcome anybody who wants to come on board.
“We will treat you and other people who may join the APC in due course as one because in APC, we are just and fair to all.
“Therefore, you will be treated equally like other old members of the party and we are confident that you will add great value to APC.”
Kakaki had earlier said that he was attracted into the fold of the APC by the giant strides of Gov. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto in all sectors of life.
According to him, the Governor has transformed the state in three years, citing rural and urban renewal as well as the rejuvenation of the health, education and water sectors, among others.
The former PDP PRO specifically extolled the efforts of the Governor in safeguarding the lives and properties of the people of the state by according security the top priority it deserves.
Kakaki further applauded Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko for providing the needed guidance to the APC and the administration of Governor Aliyu, saying Wamakko has proved to be a reliable and dependable benefactor and father-figure to him and several others.
