Osun Election: ADC Candidate Salaam Raises Concern Over Alleged Non-Recognition of Party Agents

Date:

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in the Osun State election, Najeem Salaam, has raised concerns over the alleged non-recognition of the party’s agents at polling units across parts of the state.

Salaam, who arrived at his polling unit and cast his vote at about 10:39 a.m. on Saturday, said he received reports that some ADC agents were not being recognised by election officials despite the party having uploaded their names ahead of the election.

According to him, the alleged incidents occurred in 10 local government areas of the state.

He said the matter had been reported to the relevant authorities, who were looking into the situation.

Speaking after casting his vote, Salaam said the ADC had focused its campaign on engaging voters and explaining its programmes rather than attempting to influence them through financial inducements.

> “We converse with the people, we let them know our programmes, and that is exactly what we do. Vote buying is out of it. I have never in my life bought votes,” he said.

The ADC candidate also called for a transparent electoral process that would allow voters to freely choose their preferred candidates.

> “People will decide whom they want, and I think it should be fair enough for them to have the right to choose whom they prefer as a candidate or as the governor of the state,” he added.

Salaam further denied allegations that the ADC was involved in vote buying, insisting that the party was committed to presenting its programmes to voters and allowing them to make their choices independently.

The candidate, who voted at Ward 4, expressed confidence in his chances of winning the election, attributing his optimism to his faith in God and the support of the electorate.
