More than 200 women in Kagini community received food relief packages on Saturday, August 15, 2026, as the *Abuja Metropolitan Lions Club* launched its flagship humanitarian project for the new Lion Service Year.

The outreach, tagged *“Feed the Hungry”*, was held at the Office of the District Head of Kagini and combined food distribution with an environmental sanitation campaign aimed at improving public health in the community.

The programme commenced with a community-wide sanitation exercise. Members of the Lions Club, joined by youths from Kagini, cleared drainages and public spaces while sensitizing residents on waste management and hygiene practices.

Lion Dr. Mosunmola Jemilat Abdulwaheed, MJF, NLCF, who addressed participants, linked environmental cleanliness to public health outcomes.
“This is an opportunity for our organisation to make a positive impact in the community. We believe that health is wealth, and as the Word of God teaches us, cleanliness leads to godliness,” she said.
She urged residents to take collective responsibility for their environment, warning that poor sanitation increases vulnerability to malaria, typhoid and other water-borne and air-borne diseases.

The District Head of Kagini, Ayuba Barau, also commended the initiative and called for continuity in social support programmes.
“That’s why we have to continue doing this for the improved wellbeing of people and to promote peace in communities,” Barau said. He further appealed to residents to maintain clean homes and avoid indiscriminate waste disposal.

Following the sanitation exercise, the club distributed food packages to over 200 women and other members of the community.
According to the organisers, the intervention was designed to support vulnerable households, address immediate nutritional needs, and reinforce the values of compassion and community service.

The club noted that earlier donations solicited from Nigerians enabled the mobilisation of resources for the project. The outreach also underscored the role of community-based partnerships in advancing public health, environmental sanitation and social welfare in underserved areas.
