Super Falcons’ defender Michele Alozie has deactivated her Instagram account after facing criticism from Nigerian fans following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
According to a report by The Punch on Sunday, August 16, 2026, the backlash followed Nigeria’s disappointing campaign at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where Justine Madugu’s side were eliminated by Cameroon in the quarter-finals.
The defeat meant the Super Falcons had to rely on a play-off to secure a place at the World Cup.
However, their hopes were ended by a 2-1 loss to South Africa, ruling Nigeria out of the tournament for the first time in the country’s history.
Alozie, a regular member of the national team, was among the players targeted by frustrated supporters as criticism mounted over the team’s performance.
The defender has previously attracted attention for her social media activity, including trending content shared with teammates.
Her Instagram account has remained inactive since the latest wave of criticism intensified.
The poor campaign has also increased calls for changes within the team, with some supporters demanding Madugu’s dismissal and a major overhaul of the Nigeria Football Federation.
Nigeria’s failure also means the Super Falcons, Super Eagles and Flying Eagles have all missed out on qualification for their respective World Cups for the first time.
