Alfindiki Fires Back at Tinubu Critics, Points to N7.21tn Northern Projects
Former Chairman of Kano Municipal Local Government, Comrade Fa’izu Alfindiki on Tuesday challenged critics of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to look beyond political rhetoric and assess the government by the scale of projects currently being executed across Northern Nigeria.
Alfindiki, in a signed statement that was made available to newsmen in Kano, said more than 1,400 kilometres of major road projects in addition to AKK gas project and metropolitan rail were being undertaken across the region, with a combined value exceeding N7.21 trillion.
The Kano born politician explains that the quantum projects represented a significant federal investment in the North.
He said the scope of the interventions cut across critical sectors, including roads, rail transportation, energy, healthcare and agriculture, insisting that their impact should form part of the conversation about the Tinubu administration’s performance.
Faizu Alfindiki listed the reconstruction of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano highway, rehabilitation of Kano-Maiduguri road, dualisation of Kano-Katsina road and reconstruction of Kano-Hadejia road among long list of federal government investments.
Alfindiki also pointed to the proposed Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, describing the 1,068-kilometre corridor, with an integrated rail line, as a major project capable of strengthening economic links between Northern and Southern Nigeria.
In the transport sector, he cited the $1.2 billion Kano-Kaduna rail project, alongside the Kano-Maradi rail line and proposed Kaduna Light Rail, as initiatives that could improve the movement of passengers and goods while reducing pressure on major highways.
He further listed the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline, the 1,350MW Gwagwalada Independent Power Plant and solar energy projects in Kaduna among the energy interventions he said could expand power supply and stimulate industrial activity in the region.
Beyond infrastructure, Alfindiki noted that the upgrade of Misau General Hospital to a Federal Medical Centre, improvements at the Reference Hospital in Kaduna and rehabilitation of the Kumpada Irrigation Project as evidence of investment in social services and agriculture.
The former council chairman said the figures and projects should compel Northern Nigerians to reassess narratives suggesting that the region had been neglected by the Federal Government.
“These projects show that the region is receiving significant attention,” Alfindiki said, urging citizens to distinguish between legitimate criticism and what he described as politically motivated narratives.
He added: “The time for propaganda and misinformation is over. Development is driven by action, planning and commitment, not noise.”
Alfindiki therefore called on Northerners to judge the Tinubu administration on measurable outcomes and the long-term value of its investments, rather than political arguments, while urging support for projects capable of transforming the region’s economic and social fortunes.
