APC chieftains, youth leader defect to ADC in Sokoto

Date:

Prominent members and supporters of the All Progressives Congress in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State have defected to the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The defectors include a former APC youth leader and other grassroots political actors who moved to the opposition party alongside their supporters.

The development occurred on Tuesday as political parties intensify efforts to strengthen their structures ahead of the 2027 elections.

Among those who defected was Alhaji Kabiru Isah Mai Alewa, a prominent politician in Goronyo, who announced his exit from the APC and joined the ADC.

Also in the group was Alhaji Ibrahim Ado Taloka, the immediate past APC Youth Leader in the local government.

The movement of the former youth leader is expected to attract attention among young voters, who constitute a significant segment of the electorate.

Addressing their supporters, the defectors said they had taken the decision after consultations and consideration of the political situation in their communities.

They said the decision was based on their desire for what they described as better political representation and development.

“We and our supporters have taken the decision to leave the APC and join the ADC after careful consideration, consultation and deep reflection on the political situation in our communities,” they said.

The defectors said their decision was not imposed on them or taken in haste.

“This decision was not taken suddenly, neither was it imposed on us by anybody. It is a decision taken out of our concern for the people and our determination to see a better political system,” they said.

They urged their political associates and supporters to join them in building the ADC structure across Goronyo.

“We are joining the ADC because we believe that this political journey offers a new opportunity to build a meaningful political structure that will be beneficial to the people and give our communities a stronger voice,” they added.

The defectors pledged to mobilise their supporters and deploy their political experience towards strengthening the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections.
