Coach Nguele dedicates WAFCON triumph to God, praises Cameroonians’ support

Cameroon women’s national team head coach Valentine Nguele has attributed the Indomitable Lionesses’ historic 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) triumph to God, as thousands of jubilant Cameroonians turned out in Yaoundé to welcome the champions home from Morocco.

The Lionesses were greeted with a heroes’ reception following their impressive campaign in Morocco, with fans lining the streets to celebrate the team’s continental success.

Speaking shortly after arriving in the Cameroon’s capital, an emotional Nguele expressed her gratitude to God and the people of Cameroon for their overwhelming support.

“The Lord is the one who chose me, and it is God who chooses His chosen ones. I want to say thank you to all the people of Cameroon. Once again, we give thanks to the Lord,” Nguele said.

The coach said she was overwhelmed by the scenes of celebration, describing the unity displayed by Cameroon as extraordinary.

“Honestly, I have no words to express our immense emotion and our sense of pride after our arrival here. The entire Cameroonians are united, in communion, and that is something extraordinary,” she added.

Nguele, who was appointed only two months before the tournament, admitted that she was still struggling to fully comprehend the magnitude of the achievement.

“I still cannot believe what is happening to me. I am simply happy because the entire Cameroonains are rejoicing. And it is this joy that makes me happy as well,” she said.

The triumph marks a remarkable chapter for Nguele and the Indomitable Lionesses, whose success has sparked nationwide celebrations and renewed pride in Cameroon women’s football.raise them just as you both did with me.
