Engr. Osborn Nweze Umahi has emerged chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State after contesting the council election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
The 28-year-old engineer and businessman is expected to assume responsibility for the administration of the council following the conclusion of the electoral process.
Umahi had positioned his campaign around a promise to introduce efficiency, development and accountability into grassroots governance.
Following his emergence, he pledged not to accept salaries or allowances throughout his tenure, saying his interest in public service was centred on delivering development to the people.
The commitment, if implemented throughout his tenure, would make the financial aspect of his leadership one of the distinguishing features of his administration.
Umahi is the first son of the Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi.
His entry into elective politics has generated significant interest in Ebonyi State, particularly among younger voters and political observers following the emergence of a new generation of political actors.
