Date:

From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi

Erstwhile Deputy Governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress APC, in Benue state, Alh. Usman Abubakar popularly known as ’Young Alhaji’ has finally joined the Accord Party, boasting that the party will spring surprises in 2015.

Abubakar who left the APC along with other very notable heavy weights including Ambassador Michael Gbasha, Comrade Tar Uko, and Elder Gbishe Ibi amongst others, maintained that AP would liberate the opposition in Benue and contest for the plum seats in next year’s elections.

Speaking to journalists at the party’s state secretariat in Makurdi yesterday, Abubakar explained that they decided to leave the APC because of imposition of candidates and other undemocratic practices by some elements especially the Senate Minority Leader, Dr. George Akume, assuring that in AP, there would be no imposition of candidates as everybody would be treated on merit..

It would be recalled that as a result of the APC’s last congresses in the state where Sen. Akume allegedly handpicked officials and foisted them on the members, the party has witnessed mass exodus with the likes of Sen. Daniel Saror, Sen. David Iornem, Elder Ninga Biam, Rt. Hon. Mdzenda Iho amongst others leading the pack.

“It was only three months to the elections when we sprang surprises in the state with the APC and won our elections but denied been sworn in by the connivance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and some fraudulent politicians both at home and in Abuja. We are going to do it again”, Abubakar boasted.

“In 2003, I brought another party and won elections, I was denied. In 2007, I moved to ANPP, won the senate seat but was still denied. In 2011, we won overwhelmingly, yet denied victory. Who will accuse a man of being impotent who always pregnant a woman only for the woman to continue having abortion? We will change strategy this time”, he said.
