ADC dismisses Yari’s 2031 prediction, says APC has no message for Nigerians

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed the confidence expressed by Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win re-election in 2027 and that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will remain in power beyond 2031.

Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State and newly appointed Director-General of Tinubu’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, had expressed optimism about the APC’s continued dominance shortly after his unveiling as campaign DG in Abuja.

However, ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, described Yari’s prediction as “wishful thinking,” arguing that it did not reflect the political realities in the country.

Speaking through his media aide, Kola Ologbondiyan, Mark questioned how the APC could expect to win the 2027 election when, according to him, the party and the Tinubu administration had no convincing message for Nigerian voters.

“Senator Yari’s assertion is wishful thinking which is completely at variance with the reality in our country,” Mark said.

He added that the APC and President Tinubu had yet to present a message capable of persuading Nigerians to support their bid for another term.

Similarly, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said those assuring Tinubu of an easy victory were not giving the president an accurate assessment of the political situation ahead of 2027.

Abdullahi suggested that Yari’s optimism could be linked to his recent appointment as the campaign council’s director-general, saying the former governor might be seeking to justify his new position.

He also recalled the Peoples Democratic Party’s former claim that it would rule Nigeria for 80 years, noting that the party was eventually defeated at the polls.

The ADC spokesman further questioned the strength of the APC compared with the PDP during its years of dominance, arguing that political claims of permanent control had historically failed to guarantee electoral victory.

The opposition party’s comments come as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with the APC and emerging opposition coalitions positioning themselves for what is expected to be a highly competitive contest.
