Former governorship aspirant of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kaduna State, Yusuf Zariyi, has left the party and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Zariyi announced his defection on Wednesday during a press conference in Kaduna, citing his commitment to justice, good governance and better living conditions for Nigerians as key reasons for the move.
The former aspirant said his decision followed consultations with political stakeholders, reflections on his personal experiences and a careful assessment of the NDC platform since he joined the party to pursue his governorship ambition.
Zariyi explained that his involvement in politics had always been motivated by a desire to promote justice, community development and the welfare of vulnerable people.
He maintained that his latest political decision was consistent with those principles and his continued pursuit of a platform through which he could contribute more effectively to the development of Kaduna State and Nigeria.
His defection adds to the political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly as politicians and political groups continue to review their affiliations and strategies.
