In an emotional address reflecting on recent labour agitations, staff activism, and administrative challenges within the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), the President of the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC), Comrade Rifkatu Iortyer, has expressed deep gratitude to workers, media partners, and allies who stood firm during critical negotiations and union protests.

Speaking during a surprise gathering organized in her honour to mark her 58th birthday, Comrade Iortyer commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, for his visible administrative drive and rapid infrastructure delivery across the nation’s capital.

Highlighting the transformative urban renewal across Abuja’s road networks, the union leader noted that the smoothness and exceptional quality of newly paved roads make commuters “just feel like you want to sleep on the roads.”

While acknowledging the Minister’s undeniable dedication to physical infrastructure and urban rehabilitation, Comrade Iortyer emphasized that a truly balanced governance approach must prioritize civil servants’ welfare alongside structural development.

Recounting the intense period leading up to the total shutdown of the FCTA Secretariat, she detailed the heavy personal costs endured by union members during high-stakes demonstrations aimed at pressing home staff demands.

According to her, union members personally funded hotel stays in the city center to ensure early arrivals at protest sites, with one key member permanently losing a vehicle following late-night strategy sessions with management.

Addressing the FCT Minister’s Press Corps, Iortyer, praised journalists for their persistent coverage, professional partnership, and presence despite editorial constraints during labour disputes.

nvoking Psalm 103, Dr. Ahmadu praised Comrade Iortyer’s selfless leadership, generosity, and unwavering dedication, leading colleagues and guests in a formal toast to celebrate her years of dedicated service to the FCT workforce.
