Taraba Sanitation Agency to arrest stray animals, prosecute owners

Taraba State Environmental and Sanitation Agency, on Saturday said it will apprehend stray animals and prosecute their owners over sanitation and traffic rules violations.
Hon. Iliya Kefas, chairman of the Agency disclosed this while monitoring the monthly sanitation exercise in Jalingo.
Hon. Kefas urged owners to henceforth restrict the movement of their domestic animals to avoid being penalised.
According to the chairman, stray animals are creating environmental disorder and traffic obstruction that could cause loss of lives.
“The arrest and prosecution of livestock owners who allow their animals to freely move within the state metropolis will soon commence. We uurge wners of those animals to immediately take action by restricting their movement to avoid being ppenalised, ” he said.
The agency chairman said the monthly sanitation exercise has come to stay, adding that the sanitation exercise is not limited to sweeping and evacuation of refuge, but also the enforcement critical component of the programme.
Hon. Iliya called on residents to imbibe the culture of cleanliness beyond designated sanitation hours, as a collective daily sanitation habit will improve environment health and well-being of the residents.
“I wish to inform residents that the monthly sanitation exercise has come to stay, and they must avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuge.
“Traders must keep their business areas clean, and property owners must also maintain drainages while government provide equipment for waste evacuation and public enlightenment across the 16 local government areas of the state,” the agency’s chairman stated.
