The Armed Forces of Nigeria, AFN, said its troops killed 324 terrorists, arrested 373 suspects and rescued 610 kidnap victims in August.
Giving an update on Monday in Abuja, Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, added that 201 insurgents surrendered
while 88 arms and 2,077 rounds of ammunitions were recovered.
“In the fight against crude oil theft, the AFN recovered 686,800 litres of stolen crude oil products and destroyed 21 illegal refining sites”, he said.
Explaining further, he said from 11 in June, to 57 in July, and 201 in August is an indication of growing pressure on hostile elements.
He attributed the August surge to intensified kinetic and non-kinetic operations, improved intelligence, stronger inter-agency cooperation, and increased protection of civilians and critical assets.
He said the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, commended the gallantry, discipline, and resilience of troops across all theatres.
Onoja acknowledged the sacrifices of personnel and civilians, sympathized with families of those who lost their lives, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
He said the CDS also appreciated the Nigeria Police, DSS, local security groups, traditional rulers, and community members for their cooperation and credible information.
The AFN reassured Nigerians of its commitment to sustaining the current operational tempo and defending the nation’s territorial integrity.
“Members of the public are urged to continue providing timely information to the nearest military formation or through the toll-free line 193. All information will be treated with utmost confidentiality.”
