The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of SSANU, NASU and NAAT at Kaduna State University has called on Governor Uba Sani to promptly and fully implement the 2026 Federal Government agreement signed with the non-teaching staff unions, CONTTA, to promote industrial harmony at the institution.
The appeal was contained in a communiqué issued after the JAC meeting held on Monday, August 31, 2026, at the union secretariat in Kaduna. The meeting discussed issues affecting members’ welfare, the development of Kaduna State University and the state of industrial relations at the university.
The communiqué was jointly signed by Comrade Saadiyya A. Mustapha, SSANU and JAC Chairperson; Comrade Nicholas Allen Yakubu, SSANU Secretary; Comrade Nina Lami Ochigbo, NASU Chairman; Comrade Dahiru Musa, NASU and JAC Secretary; Comrade Aliyu Garba, NAAT Chairman; and Comrade Bala K. Aboi, NAAT Secretary.
Regarding CONTTA, the JAC stated that agreements freely entered into by the government and duly recognised unions should be honoured without unnecessary delays.
“We therefore urge the Kaduna State Government and the university management to take all necessary steps to ensure that the provisions of the agreement applicable to Kaduna State University staff are implemented accordingly,” the communiqué read.
The JAC also listed several outstanding demands it said had not been fully addressed. These include the payment of Earned Allowances and Excess Workload Allowances for eligible non-teaching staff, payment of outstanding promotion arrears, provision and enforcement of Group Life Insurance for university staff, settlement of pension arrears, implementation and payment of the 25 per cent and 35 per cent salary increases for university staff, and payment of the outstanding Wage Award.
The committee called on the Kaduna State Government to urgently resolve the issues in the interest of staff welfare and industrial peace.
On funding, the JAC emphasised the importance of adequate and sustainable financing for Kaduna State University, noting that without sufficient resources, the university could not effectively fulfil its responsibilities in teaching, research, innovation and accreditation.
The JAC urged the government to increase funding to enable the university to improve infrastructure, support academic and research activities, enhance staff welfare, meet accreditation standards, provide essential facilities and foster a conducive environment for students and staff.
The unions also called for the strengthening and protection of the university’s institutional autonomy to ensure sufficient administrative, financial and academic independence.
“Greater autonomy will promote efficiency, transparency, accountability, academic excellence and effective management of the university’s resources,” the JAC stated.
The committee also expressed concern over the ongoing industrial dispute between a sister union at the university and the state government.
It appealed to Governor Uba Sani, as Visitor to the university, and all relevant stakeholders to resolve the dispute amicably and promptly by implementing all agreements reached with university-based unions.
The JAC stressed that consistent implementation of the 2026 agreements was crucial to building trust, fostering industrial peace and maintaining stability within the university system.
While thanking the Kaduna State Government for its positive responses, the JAC reiterated its commitment to constructive dialogue with the government and university management to achieve industrial peace, improve staff welfare and support the sustainable development of Kaduna State University.
The JAC also appreciated the patience and cooperation of SSANU, NASU and NAAT members and urged them to remain united and committed to the collective struggle for the rights and entitlements of university workers.
