The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have introduced a one-time N4,000 WASSCE verification fee for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions, in a move aimed at simplifying the admission process and eliminating multiple verification charges.

Under the new arrangement, candidates will verify their WASSCE O’Level results once through JAMB’s designated platform, after which the verified result will be made available to the tertiary institution where they are seeking admission.

JAMB and WAEC on Tuesday announced the agreement after a series of consultations designed to streamline the verification process, reduce costs for admission seekers and strengthen the integrity of academic records.

The examination bodies said candidates would be able to complete the verification process remotely from their homes or any location with internet access, removing the need for repeated visits to tertiary institutions or JAMB-accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.

Once a candidate’s result has been successfully verified, JAMB will electronically transmit the authenticated record to the institution handling the admission process.

The agencies also directed universities, polytechnics, colleges of education and other tertiary institutions not to impose additional verification fees on candidates.

Instead, institutions are expected to rely on the verified results supplied through JAMB for admission screening, processing and other administrative purposes.

As part of the agreement, WAEC has authorised JAMB to share verified WASSCE results directly with relevant institutions, ensuring candidates are not required to repeat the verification process during the same admission cycle.

The new framework is expected to reduce duplication, minimise delays and improve efficiency in Nigeria’s tertiary admission system.

According to JAMB and WAEC, the collaboration is also intended to strengthen the authenticity, security and credibility of candidates’ academic credentials while easing the financial burden associated with multiple verification requests.
